The Holy Bible was written by men divinely inspired…
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness
2 Timothy 3:16
This scripture tells us that the Bible is given to us by inspiration from God. Understanding the meaning of the word “inspiration” is very important if we are to truly understand the incredible authority found in our Bible.
The word, “inspire” is composed of two root words. The first word is one in which we are all very familiar, it is the word “in” which means just that. The second word however is “spire” which means “to breath”. Therefore, literally, the word “inspire” means “to breathe in”.
What this scripture is telling us is that the words we find in our Bibles are not just the wise words of men who had learned some things about God. They are words that God breathed into these men. In Matthew 4 Jesus was tempted by Satan while He was fasting. The devil gave Him some stones and told Him that He could turn them into bread and eat. Jesus replied, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.”
The “inspired” word of God is that which proceeded out of the mouth of God and was breathed into these men. They, in turn, exhaled God’s words onto paper. God used their person (their physical body) and their personality (the sum of all of our experiences that makes us who we are} to compose a message that is meaningful to all mankind.
