The Holy Bible: Has God for Its Author.
But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
Matthew 4:4
We learned in our first lesson that every word of scripture was breathed into men by God. Thusly, we know and understand that each word is God’s word. And yes, that makes God the author. However, let us not limit authorship to being merely the creation of the words written. There is more involved in authorship than merely writing words.
The author is the one who originates the concept of the writing, forms and organizes the ideas and then presents them in written form. The way it is written matters to the author. Just like the author of a suspense book will not reveal the plot too soon but instead will strategically allow the plot to thicken before the mystery is revealed.
God is not interested in creating drama. But as the author of the Bible, He did have a strategy. Therefore, the Bible has to be studied with a view to the whole story in order to have a correct interpretation of what God, the author, is communicating to us. Some people make the mistake of interpreting it’s meaning by reading only a portion of the scripture. Truly understanding what God, the author is trying to tell you is crucial to true Biblical interpretation and Christian discipleship.
